Municipal facilities and services impacted by winter storm

December 23, 2022

The County of Prince Edward has adjusted its operations as a result of the winter storm in the area.

Recreation Facilities

The arenas in Picton and Wellington are closed the remainder of the day on Friday, December 23.

An update on arena operations will be provided in the morning on Saturday, December 24. Follow the County on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

Landfills and waste transfer facilities

All landfills and waste transfer facilities are closed on Saturday, December 24.

The Picton waste site will be open on Wednesday, December 28 and all sites will be open Saturday, December 31.

Administrative offices

The County’s administrative offices closed at noon on Friday, December 23 for the Christmas holidays. Administrative offices will reopen on Tuesday, January 3 for regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm).

Library branches

County of Prince Edward Public Library and Archives is advising the public that some branches may close early on December 23. Please call before visiting. Visit the County website for contact information.

Burn ban in place

A full burn ban is in effect due to high winds.

The burn ban restricts all fires including campfires, burn barrels, chimeneas, brush piles and yard waste.

Cooking devices that are designed to cook food with wood pellets or charcoal, such as smokers or grills, are permitted for use. Any cooking devices, outdoor fireplaces and fuel fired appliances that use propane or natural gas are also exempt from the burn ban.

Overnight winter parking restrictions in effect

No parking is permitted on any street or highway in the County between the hours of 12 am and 6 am.

The overnight parking restriction includes all municipal parking lots, except in these areas posted with winter parking sections:

  • Mary Street parking lot (Picton): Spaces in the first row to the Ieft of the entrance are designated for overnight parking.
  • 55 King Street parking lot (Picton): Parking is permitted along the right side of the lot on odd-numbered days and along the left side of the lot on even-numbered days.

Emergency overnight accommodations available

Emergency accommodations are available overnight this evening, December 23-24.

If you need a place to stay overnight, please call the local Salvation Army office at 613.476.3159 and a representative will help arrange accommodations. For after-hours inquiries, call 613.476.2345.

Glenora Ferry

The Glenora Ferry has returned to service as of 4 pm on Thursday, December 23.
