June 20, 2024

Qualifying households in Prince Edward County can apply for relief on their municipal bills – on property taxes or water/wastewater bills for their primary residence.

Applications to the Municipal Financial Relief Grant are due July 15, 2024.

Prince Edward County residents can apply for one of the two available grant streams:

Water/wastewater bill relief eligibility

  • Tenants who pay for water/wastewater services, and who earn $32,240/year or less (for single occupants), or $64,480/year or less (for multiple occupants) before deductions can apply for a credit of $350 toward their water bill.
  • Households that earn $20,000/year or less would receive a $500 credit toward their water bill.

Property tax bill relief eligibility

  • Property owners who pay municipal tax on their primary residence in Prince Edward County. Applicants who earn $32,240/year or less (for single occupants), or $64,480/year or less (for multiple occupants) before deductions can apply for a credit of $750 toward their property taxes.
  • Households that earn $20,000/year or less would receive a $1,000 credit toward their property taxes.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by the end of August; credits are applied to the September bills.

Please note: applicants need to include a copy of their most recent property tax or water bill and a Notice of Assessment (NOA) from Revenue Canada for ALL household occupants listed on the bill. Line 15000 from the Notice of Assessment will be used to verify income and eligibility. Click here for more information on eligibility requirements and how to apply.

The municipally funded program is administered by The County Foundation. Visit The County Foundation website to learn more and get answers to frequently asked questions.
