Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue to host Mobile Live Training Unit August 2 – 11

July 18, 2024

Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue (PECFR) will host a Mobile Live Training Unit at Station 1 in Picton from Friday, August 2 to Sunday, August 11.

Thanks to a successful joint application between PECFR, Mohawk Fire, and the Township of Tyendinaga Fire Department, PECFR has been granted the exclusive and prestigious opportunity to host the Mobile Live Fire Training Unit (MLFTU).

“This is a thrilling opportunity for County firefighters to train with a state-of-the-art live-fire simulation tool,” says Fire Chief Chad Brown. “Hosting the MLFTU is another example of our commitment to providing high-quality training opportunities to strengthen members’ skills as they continue to deliver quality service to the community.”

The MLFTU is a propane-fueled training prop available in Ontario and staffed with Ontario Fire College course instructors. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office (OFM) covers the MLFTU cost to expand and modernize access to high-quality, hands-on fire training experiences.

“The Ministry of the Solicitor General has purchased these units for use by Ontario Fire Services. Without the funding and commitment from the Ministry and coordination by the Office of the Fire Marshal, opportunities like this would not be possible for many departments. We thank Minister Kerzner at the Ministry of the Solicitor General and the OFM for this unique opportunity,” Chief Brown says.

During the first week of August, firefighters from all three municipalities will participate in an immersive firefighting training experience focused on fire suppression, pumper operations, and incident management systems.
