REMINDER: Drilling and blasting on Finnegan Drive (Picton) begins March 16

March 13, 2026

Drilling and blasting operations will begin at 90 Finnegan Drive starting Monday, March 16.

The contractor for the new long-term care home encountered rock during the installation of the sanitary sewer. The rock can only be removed through drilling and blasting.

Drilling and blasting will occur between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday – Friday.

Drilling and blasting operations are expected to take place until Monday, April 20. If drilling and blasting is required beyond that period, the municipality will provide an update to the community.

Three long sirens will be sounded prior to the blast to warn of imminent blast.

These operations are required as part of the long-term care home redevelopment project.

Project background

The County of Prince Edward is undertaking an exciting redevelopment of its long-term care home. The new 124,500 square foot home will nearly double current capacity from 84 to 160 long-term care beds, helping meet the growing needs of seniors in Prince Edward County.

Designed with a resident-first approach, the building will feature five 32-bed Resident Home Areas, each offering a more intimate, home-like environment with improved privacy, accessibility, and comfort.

With upgraded infection-prevention standards and a strong focus on community well-being, the new building is an important investment in quality, dignity, and modern long-term care for local seniors.

The new home will be located on municipally owned land beside the current building, ensuring residents continue receiving uninterrupted care during the transition.
