Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) has declared on August 10 a respiratory outbreak at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home.
Testing is still underway to determine the agent that caused the outbreak.
The affected residents have been isolated. Anyone experiencing symptoms of a cold or fever should avoid visiting H.J. McFarland Memorial Home during the respiratory outbreak.
H.J. McFarland Memorial Home has reached out to all residents and their loved ones at the long-term care home to inform them about the outbreak.
For confidentiality reasons H.J. McFarland Memorial Home is not able to share any identifiable or additional information about the cases.
To help limit the spread of infection, the long-term care home requests that:
- Everyone entering the home wash their hands or use hand sanitizer.
- Everyone visiting the home follow the directions of the staff, and wear the recommended personal protective equipment, such as a mask or face covering.
The County will update residents when HPEPH declares the outbreak over according to its regulations.
