February 17, 2025

Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) declared on Monday, February 17 a respiratory outbreak at H.J. McFarland Memorial Home.

Testing is still underway to determine the agent that caused the outbreak.

The affected residents have been isolated. Staff and residents will be cohorted to limit the potential spread of the virus.

For confidentiality reasons H.J. McFarland Memorial Home is not able to share any identifiable or additional information about the cases.

H.J. McFarland Memorial Home has reached out to all residents and their loved ones at the long-term care home to inform them about the outbreak. Anyone experiencing symptoms of a cold or fever should avoid visiting H.J. McFarland Memorial Home during the respiratory outbreak.

To help limit the spread of infection, the long-term care home requests that:

  • Everyone entering the home wash their hands or use hand sanitizer.
  • Everyone visiting the home follow the directions of the staff and use a blue surgical mask.

The home is returning to small group activities for individual areas, and large events are cancelled.

The municipality will update residents when HPEPH declares the outbreak over according to its regulations.
