Discussions between the County of Prince Edward and Picton Terminals on a negotiated settlement concluded earlier this week.
Earlier this month, County Council directed Chief Administrative Officer Marcia Wallace and the municipality’s legal team to negotiate an agreement with Picton Terminals and return to Council for review and final approval.
Negotiations have been constructive between the two parties over the last few weeks. During the negotiation window from May 1 to May 31, Picton Terminals has agreed not to perform any major construction on the property. “We look forward to finalizing the details in the coming days and then returning to County Council in June for their review and direction,” CAO Wallace says.
Notwithstanding the negotiations, the County is continuing with its by-law enforcement order against Picton Terminals related to shipping containers on the site and laid a charge against the company as it had not complied with the order within the two-week period granted. The issue went before the Ontario Court of Justice on May 19, where Picton Terminal’s request for disclosure and a 60-day adjournment was granted. The next appearance date is scheduled for July 7.
