The County seeks input on proposed water and wastewater rates

September 29, 2021

The County of Prince Edward is seeking input from residents and ratepayers on proposed water and wastewater rate scenarios for the period of 2022-2026. The County’s current rates are set to expire on December 31, 2021 and Council will consider the proposed rate scenarios at its November 10 meeting.

Water and wastewater rates are an important part of The County’s legislated water financial plan. Staff have worked with specialized consultants at Watson & Associates to undertake a water and wastewater rate study, which was presented to Committee of the Whole on August 19. The report includes four water and wastewater rate scenarios, including a range of rate increases, financing models for infrastructure investments and options for tying rates to seasonal consumption.

Residents and ratepayers are encouraged to review the background information about water and wastewater rates that is available on Have Your Say.

County staff will host a virtual town hall on Wednesday October 6 at 7pm on The County’s YouTube channel. The public can watch the livestream of the town hall on that date, or access the video for on-demand viewing after that date. To submit a question to be answered during the town hall, email communications@pecounty.on.ca.

The public survey requesting feedback on the four rate scenarios will be available on Have Your Say from October 6-17, 2021. The survey may be completed online, or in person at Shire Hall or any PEC Library branch. To increase the reach of the water and wastewater rate consultation efforts, staff will be conducting consultation pop-ups across The County. Residents and ratepayers can complete an in-person survey at the following locations and dates:

  • Wednesday October 13 – 10 am – 12 pm – In front of Picton Library – 208 Picton Main Street, Picton
  • Wednesday October 13 – 1 pm – 3 pm – In front of Bloomfield Town Hall – 289 Bloomfield Main Street, Bloomfield
  • Thursday October 14 – 10 am – 12 pm – In front of Wellington Library – 261 Wellington Main Street, Wellington
  • Thursday October 14 – 1 pm – 3 pm – In front of Consecon Library – 211 County Road 29, Consecon
  • Thursday October 14 – 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm – In front of Ameliasburgh Library – 809 Whitney Road, Ameliasburgh
  • Friday October 15 – 10 am – 12 pm – In front of Carrying Place Post Office – 2537 County Road 64, Carrying Place
  • Friday October 15 – 1 pm – 3 pm – In front of Rossmore Plaza Information Hut – 5503 Highway 62, Rossmore

Residents and ratepayers are also invited to book a technical visit to a water or wastewater plant during the month of October. These visits are an opportunity to view the facilities and learn about proposed infrastructure investments that inform the water rate study and rate scenarios. For more information about technical visits, email communications@pecounty.on.ca.
