Winter safety and seasonal parking rules in effect

The County of Prince Edward is reminding residents of the seasonal changes to parking rules in effect as of December 1.

Winter parking in Picton

  • Parking in Picton is free from December 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. This includes Picton Main Street and the Market Lane parking spaces.
  • Drivers are encouraged to “Feed the Meter” to help support the Food for Learning All proceeds collected in parking meters on Picton Main Street during the month of December will help buy breakfast, lunch and snacks for students in local schools.

Overnight parking restrictions

  • As of December 1, no parking is permitted on any streets or highways in the County of Prince Edward between the hours of 12 am and 6 am. The overnight parking restrictions will remain in effect until March 31, 2025.
  • The winter parking restriction includes all municipal parking lots, except in these areas posted with winter parking sections:
    • Mary Street parking lot (Picton): Spaces in the first row to the Ieft of the entrance are designated for overnight parking.
    • 55 King Street parking lot (Picton): Parking is permitted along the east side of the lot on even-numbered days and along the west side of the lot on odd-numbered days.

Winter Storm Preparedness: Know what to do before, during and after a storm

  • Every Canadian household needs an emergency plan to prepare for changes in winter weather. This plan will help you and your family know what to do in case of an emergency. Follow the instructions to prepare your emergency plan.
  • Half of all home heating fires happen in December, January and February. Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly and replace them when they expire. Have flashlights, battery-powered lighting, and fresh batteries on hand; never leave candles unsupervised.
