Bridges Out of Poverty: A community-wide training

October 28 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

The public is invited to attend Bridges Out of Poverty, a community-wide training opportunity designed to build a shared understanding of poverty and resilience.

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 28 from 9:30 am to 4 pm at the Prince Edward Community Centre (375 Picton Main Street). There is no cost to attend and lunch and refreshments will be provided.

The training helps individuals and organizations address financial instability by building resources and enhancing understanding across economic classes. It involves everyone within the community and provides a common language, tools, and strategies for communities to co-create sustainable solutions together.

Whether you’re in education, business, social services, local government, or simply passionate about community change, this is your chance to be part of a growing movement to make Prince Edward County more inclusive and create stability for everyone.

The training will be facilitated by certified Bridges Out of Poverty trainer Suzie Johnson-Smith. During the training, participants will:

  • Explore essential resources for stability
  • Identify the complexity and causes of poverty
  • Develop and analyze a mental model for economic environments
  • Learn the unspoken rules of different economic classes
  • Evaluate how language and narratives negotiate our environments
  • Discuss family stability and the importance of building social capital
  • Gain new tools and strategies for improving relationships and outcomes

Registration is required. To register, click here.

This training is made possible by the Community Safety and Well-being (CSWB) Plan’s Poverty Reduction Action Team. The CSWB Plan is a municipal initiative mandated by the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019. It brings together local organizations, police, and residents to address root causes of issues like poverty, mental health, and housing. This plan is guided by collective impact practices, which means different groups work together toward shared goals.
