Chimney Swifts S.O.S.!
June 17 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Please join the Prince Edward County Field Naturalists, the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario’s PEC branch (ACO PEC) and The CAPE for Chimney Swifts S.O.S.! Learn about the unique relationship between Picton’s heritage buildings and Chimney Swifts – a Species at Risk in Ontario. The CAPE (the old Picton Legion) has a chimney that Swifts still use.
Chimney Swift S.O.S. will feature a presentation by Winifred Wake from Nature London. Winnifred has dedicated much of her life to studying, promoting, and protecting Chimney Swifts. Heritage architect Edwin Rowse will talk about adaptions that can be used to protect chimneys while allowing them to function as Swift habitat. PECFN will present a summary of Swift Watch data. We’ll conclude the evening with an architectural walking tour of downtown Picton heritage buildings, conducted by members of ACO PEC, that have been used by Swifts.
