Civil Marriage Ceremonies
Civil Marriage Ceremonies are for couples looking for a simple and dignified approach to exchange their marriage vows.
Ceremonies are conducted at Shire Hall, 332 Main Street, Picton, or at the Macaulay Heritage Museum, 23 Church Street, Picton.
The ceremonies are on Fridays during office hours only. Please check out our available ceremony dates and times below. Pre-booking is required.
How to Book a Ceremony
- Please review the available dates and times in the link above, as well as the ceremony locations which are listed below.
- Once you have chosen your date, time and location, contact the Clerk’s Office at clerks@pecounty.on.ca or call 613.476.2148 ext. 1020 to book the Civil Ceremony.
- Once you have contacted the Clerk’s office and confirmed a date, time and location, please complete the Civil Marriage Ceremony Booking Form and make payment.
- Two witnesses are required and should both be over the age of sixteen. If you are unable to provide your own witnesses, the County can provide witnesses for you.
- Civil ceremony fees. Please note that this fee does not include the marriage licence fee of $140.00.
- Civil Marriage Ceremony at Shire Hall – $300
- Civil Marriage Ceremony at Macauley Heritage Museum – $500
- Any requests for change or cancellation must be made fourteen (14) business days prior to the ceremony, unless extenuating circumstances occur. The ceremony fee is non-refundable.
Ceremony Locations
Shire Hall Council Chambers
Location: 332 Main Street, Picton
Details: Council Chambers is an indoor ceremony space which will allow for approximately 25-30 guests. There is also an outdoor pavilion that may be used. Parking is available.
Cost: $300.00 plus tax
Conditions: No alcohol is permitted on Municipal property. No rice or confetti throwing is permitted. Please note that this location is in active use by County Employees. Guests must be mindful that employees are working and decoration set-up and take down must take place within the 1-hour booking timeframe.
Macaulay Heritage Museum
Location: 23 Church Street, Picton
Details: Macaulay Heritage Museum is an indoor/outdoor ceremony space which will allow for approximately 25-30 guests. Parking is available.
Cost: $500.00 plus tax
Conditions: No alcohol is permitted on Municipal property. No rice or confetti throwing is permitted. Please note that this location is in active use by County Employees. Guests must be mindful that employees are working and decoration set-up and take down must take place within the 1-hour booking timeframe.
Ceremony FAQ's
How many guests can I have attend the ceremony?
Both ceremony locations can accommodate between 25–30 people.
Can I bring decorations?
Decorations such as flowers are permitted but must be removed directly after the ceremony. Decorations cannot be adhered to any surfaces. Rice and/or confetti is not permitted. The County does not provide any decorations.
How long do we have the ceremony space for?
The booking is one hour long.

Is an officiant provided?
The Marriage Officiant is provided by the County.
Can I take photos or videos?
Yes, you are welcome to take photos and videos through the ceremony.
Is parking available?
Parking is available at both locations.
Is there seating available for ceremony guests?
Seating is available at both locations.
Can I play music?
Yes, you are welcome to play music, but you must provide your own device, speaker or other means of playing music. The municipality does not provide device(s) for music to be played on.
Can I obtain a marriage licence with another municipality and still get married in the County?
Yes, the County can issue the licence prior to the ceremony or you may obtain the licence from any other municipality in Ontario that has the authority to issue licences.
Is there an Alcohol Policy?
Consumption of alcoholic beverages on Prince Edward County property is strictly prohibited unless under authority of the A.G.C.O.
Failure to follow the Liquor Licence Act may result in a referral to appropriate authorities, a warning, written notice, suspension of bookings or loss of bookings to the group, or a combination of any of these, as determined appropriate by Municipal staff.
