About This Position:
The Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the permanent full-time position of Building Inspector – Level II. Reporting to the Chief Building Official, The Building Inspector – Level II ensures that the construction, alteration, plumbing, HVAC and onsite sewage of all houses, large buildings and complex structures is in accordance with all municipal by-laws, the Building Code Act, Ontario Building Code and other relevant acts, legislation or regulation.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Completed post-secondary education in a related field such as Architectural Technology, Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Has obtained a minimum level certification of qualifications in House, HVAC House, Plumbing House, Septic House, Small Buildings, Plumbing All Buildings, Building Services, Building Structural, On-Site Sewage Systems, Large Buildings, Complex Buildings and General Legal from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing.
- CBCO certification through the Ontario Building Officials Association is considered an asset.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in enforcement of the Ontario Building Code.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Significant knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Act.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of computers, with knowledge related to Microsoft Office Software.
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check.
- Valid “G” Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.
The starting rate of pay for this position is $43.83 to $45.26 per hour (40 hour work week) per Band 13 of CUPE Local 2275’s Collective Agreement. Compensation also includes a competitive benefit package and membership in OMERS, a defined benefit pension plan.
