Rental housing survey launched in the County

May 28, 2026

The County of Prince Edward’s Housing Department is requesting information from rental property owners through a second survey to better understand rental housing in Prince Edward County.

Small rural municipalities often don’t have enough housing data for the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to report on accurately. The first survey conducted by the municipality in 2018 resulted in a vacancy rate of 0.8%, eighty per cent less than CMHC’s survey, which relies on larger data pools.

This year, the County is expanding the survey to more rental unit types for a broader sense of the rental housing market, vacancy rates and other issues. The municipality will also speak with property managers and owners directly to identify better ways to support them.

“An updated rental housing survey will both provide a better understanding about rental housing in Prince Edward County to support municipal policy, as well as property owners and their tenants,” says Elis Ziegler, Affordable Housing Supervisor, “Being able to report accurate information will aid in the advocacy, policies and programs to support both market and affordable rental housing, as well as support property owners with additional supports from the County’s Housing Help Coordinator to stabilize tenancies.”

The short survey can be found here for property owners and managers to complete directly. The survey can also be completed offline with the assistance of the County’s Housing Help Coordinator. Survey results will be made available on the County’s website this fall. All information published will protect property owner privacy.

If you require further information or assistance to participate in the survey, please contact Judith Burfoot, Housing Help Coordinator, at 613.476.2148 ext. 1069 or email housinghelp@pecounty.on.ca.
