The County of Prince Edward is providing the following update on the major structural rehabilitation of County Road 49:
- Paving began on Friday, October 9 at the north limit of the project at County Road 15 (Northport Road).
- The rubblization process has advanced to Bethesda Road, representing more than 9 kilometres of the 18-kilometre project corridor. The concrete (resonant frequency) breaker machine has returned to service after undergoing repairs earlier this week.
- Culvert replacement work was completed this week. The installation of subdrain north of County Road 6 was also completed.
Work on this project will pause over the Thanksgiving long weekend. Crews will be back on site on Tuesday, October 13 to continue rubblization and paving operations. The contractor will also install subdrain south of County Road 6.
Drivers can continue to expect delays of 5 to 10 minutes through the construction zone. Both lanes of traffic reopen at the end of each construction day. To help manage dust on gravel sections, the contractor is applying calcium and water as needed.
With delays typically ranging from 5 to 10 minutes, using alternate routes may provide little to no travel-time advantage for commuters.
Drivers choosing to use County Roads 5 and 15 as alternate routes are reminded to obey posted speed limits and drive with caution in residential and rural areas.
