The County of Prince Edward is providing the following update on the major structural rehabilitation of County Road 49:
- Rubblization of the existing concrete surface roadway continued south of Bethesda Road this past week.
- Rubblization will continue next week. The municipality anticipates that rubblization will progress past the Heidelberg Materials cement plant (1370 County Road 49) by the end of next week.
- Base paving at the north end of the project is scheduled for Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18.
- Base paving will resume Wednesday, October 21 and continue through Friday, October 23.
- Culvert and box culvert work and subdrain installations are now complete.
Drivers can continue to expect delays of 5 to 10 minutes at both the rubblization and paving locations. Both lanes of traffic reopen at the end of each construction day. To help manage dust on gravel sections, the contractor is applying calcium and water as needed.
With delays typically ranging from 5 to 10 minutes, using alternate routes may provide little to no travel-time advantage for commuters.
Drivers choosing to use County Roads 5 and 15 as alternate routes are reminded to obey posted speed limits and drive with caution in residential and rural areas.
