Council approves reserve list of commemorative street names

February 20, 2024

Prince Edward County Council has approved the community-developed reserve list of commemorative street names.

The purpose of the list is to diversify street names within the County to reflect our broader community culture and heritage. Developers can now choose from this list of names when they are required to name new streets.

The County’s Street Naming Task Team developed the reserve list of commemorative street names through extensive public consultation during the summer and fall of 2023.

129 public submissions met the criteria of historical and cultural significance, diversity, and inclusion required as part of the reserve list. Including the cenotaph names, the commemorative street name list is now 227 names strong.

County Council also approved the revised Commemorative Street Naming Policy at its February 13 meeting.
