July 11, 2025

The County of Prince Edward wants to remind residents of the following requirements when installing a private in-ground or above-ground pool:

  • All in-ground or above-ground pools require a pool enclosure permit for the fence around it.
  • The location of the pool must comply with the zoning by-law and:
    • Be located on the interior side or rear yard of the lot
    • Be located more than or equal to 1.5 metres from the side or rear property lines
    • Have no water circulation or treatment equipment such as pumps or filters closer than 3 metres to any side or rear property line
  • The pool fence enclosure shall be:
    • 1.5 metres in height made of sturdy material
    • Have a self-closing gate capable of being locked
  • Residents can apply for a pool enclosure permit online using Cloud Permit. All applications are to be accompanied by a site plan showing:
    • Pool location with measurements to property lines
    • Fence location and type
    • Pool pump and equipment location with measurements to property lines
    • Self-latching gates labelled
  • The cost for a pool enclosure permit is $150
