County Road 49 rehabilitation report: August 3-7

July 31, 2026

The County of Prince Edward is providing the following update on the structural rehabilitation of County Road 49.

  • The contractor, R.W. Tomlinson Ltd., has replaced nine cross-culverts between County Road 15 and Bethesda Road.
  • The contractor will continue to replace cross-culverts south of Bethesda Road from August 4-7. During culvert replacement, there will be single-lane closures in the vicinity of the work from 7 am – 7 pm. Temporary traffic signals will help maintain the flow of traffic and minimize delays.
  • The municipality continues to monitor and maintain areas where the cement has been cut out and removed for the cross-culvert replacement. “Bump ahead” signs are installed near the road cuts. The municipality advises drivers to follow the signs and reduce their speed when approaching the road cuts.

Rubblization update

The specialized machine that will rubblize County Road 49 is tentatively scheduled to arrive in the County on August 9 with work beginning August 10.

Rubblization is the road rehabilitation technique involves breaking the existing concrete road into small pieces and leaving them in place, creating a strong foundation for the new asphalt road.

Crews will start at County Road 15 (Northport Road) and work their way south. A minimum of one lane of traffic, operating under alternating directions, will be maintained at all times throughout construction. Drivers can expect delays of between five to 10 minutes.
