The County of Prince Edward is celebrating National AccessAbility Week May 26 – June 1.
“I encourage residents to continue advocating for the rights of peoples with disabilities and building an inclusive community that values and celebrates the abilities of all our members,” Mayor Steve Ferguson says.
Established in 2017, National AccessAbility Week celebrates, promotes, and showcases:
- The valuable contributions and leadership of persons with disabilities in Canada
- The work of allies, organizations and communities that are removing barriers
- The ongoing efforts to become a more accessible and disability-inclusive Canada
This year’s theme for National AccessAbility Week is “Forward Together: Accessibility and Inclusion for All,” emphasizing the need for collective efforts to create a barrier-free Canada. The country’s strength lies in the diversity of its people — all its people — and there are ways everyone can contribute to this vision.

Throughout the week, the County of Prince Edward will celebrate the work of people, organizations, and initiatives that make the municipality a place where everyone is welcome. Follow the municipality on Facebook and Twitter/X for updates.
The municipality demonstrates its commitment and dedication to accessibility with its Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2022-2026. The plan includes strategies to ensure that all people achieve equitable access to municipal programs, services, and facilities. The Clerk’s Office prepares a yearly progress report on progress.
In addition, municipal staff are proposing to install new accessible parking spaces and improve existing spaces in Picton, Bloomfield, and Wellington at off-street parking lots and on-street parking areas. The municipality is seeking public feedback on the proposed changes to determine if there are any issues or concerns before they are implemented. Visit the County’s Have Your Say platform to learn more.
Residents and members of the public are encouraged to help us identify areas where the municipality can improve to become barrier-free. Residents are also encouraged to share their accessibility stories or tell us what an accessible Prince Edward County looks and feels like. Share your input by emailing Catalina Blumenberg, Clerk at cblumenberg@pecounty.on.ca.
