Support now available for medical waste disposal

November 17, 2025

If you have a medical condition that results in extra garbage, you may be eligible for help disposing of this waste.

The Medical Waste Assistance Pilot Program allows eligible Prince Edward County residents to put one extra bag of medical waste at the curb each week for one year.

Applicants must provide a signed certification form from a medical practitioner (e.g. physician, personal support worker, home care nurse). The letter must attest that the applicant’s medical condition results in the generation of additional waste beyond that person’s control. Please note: the practitioner is not required to state the medical condition on the note.

  • The first 20 eligible County residents to apply will be selected to participate in the pilot program.
  • The pilot program is valid for one year.
  • Waste must be placed out during the regular collection schedule.
  • The program does not apply to bags brought to waste disposal sites or transfer stations.

This pilot project is the first step in developing a program that meets residents’ needs. The municipality will continue to accept applications after the pilot program reaches the 20-person limit. Applicants who are not accepted on the first intake will be considered during future expansions of the program and will not have to re-apply.

Applications can be submitted online, through email, mail or in person. To download the application form or to fill out the online application, click here. Paper copies can be picked up at Shire Hall (332 Picton Main Street) Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm. Applicants who are successfully included in the pilot program will be invited to participate in the program starting January 1.

Paper applications should be addressed to the attention of the Operational Services Department and may be delivered to:

115 Lake Street (Picton, ON K0K 2T0)

Shire Hall (332 Picton Main Street, Picton, ON K0K 2T0)
