The County is encouraging residents and businesses to take a few moments to consider winter driving tips.
✔️ Give plows space and time to do their work
- Stay back from working snowplows and other winter maintenance vehicles with flashing blue lights. You’ll see them on roadways and sidewalks before, during and after a snowfall or storm.
- Never pass a working snowplow. It is very dangerous for you and the plow driver. Sightlines and visibility can be significantly reduced by blowing snow and the ridge of snow that the plow creates. Trying to pass between or around a snowplow could result in a severe – even fatal – collision.
- Be patient. It takes time to clear the roads after a snowfall. If you are driving behind a snowplow, wait for it to finish its job. Roads are plowed in sections, so you usually won’t be stuck behind a plow for more than 20 minutes.

✔️ Know where to park in the winter
-
- As of December 1, no parking is permitted on any streets in The County between the hours of 12 am and 6 am. The overnight parking restrictions will remain in effect until March 31, 2021.
- The winter parking restriction includes all municipal parking lots, except in these areas posted with winter parking sections:
- Mary Street parking lot (Picton): Spaces in the first row to the left of the entrance are designated for overnight parking.
- 55 King Street parking lot (Picton): Parking is permitted along the right side of the lot on odd-numbered days and along the left side of the lot on even-numbered days.
- Parking in Picton is free from December 1 to March 31; however, during the month of December drivers are encouraged to “feed the meter” in December to help buy breakfast, lunch and snacks for students in local schools. Learn more about the Food for Learning program.

✔️ Be prepared for winter driving
- Drive according to weather conditions. Slow down, give space, stay alert and ensure your lighting systems are fully operational so you can see and be seen.
- Prepare your vehicle for winter with winter tires, maintaining at least a half-tank of gas at all times, and ensure you have an ice scraper, washer fluid that works down to -40 celsius, and a vehicle emergency kit.
