Contractors retained by the County of Prince Edward will be drilling asphalt cores and boreholes on Bloomfield Main Street between Corey Street and County Road 33 on Monday, September 22.
- Work will take place between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm.
- There will be no road closures during this time. Lane restrictions and traffic control will be in place. Motorists may experience minor delays.
- Heavy equipment may limit visibility in the area and noise levels will be elevated for the duration of the work.
- Select parking stalls adjacent to the drill rig on Bloomfield Main Street may be temporarily restricted due to safety concerns. The contractor will strive to limit the impact to parking spaces as much as possible during the drilling.
- This work will support the design of the Bloomfield Main Street resurfacing project taking place in 2026. This Council-approved capital project received $2 million in provincial funding as part of the Connecting Links program. The provincial funding will cover 90 per cent of the project costs. - The boreholes will help the municipality gain valuable information about the subsurface conditions on this road. This information will then inform the design of the project.
- Planning and design for this project is happening in 2025, with the work taking place in 2026. The work on this 1.1 km stretch of Bloomfield Main Street is expected to take 6-8 weeks. The road will always remain open with one lane of traffic, and the work will be done in sections.
- The municipality has met with representatives from the business community and residents and will continue to involve them in developing strategies to manage the impact of this project. More information will be shared with the broader community as the design process progresses.
