Uride adds ride sharing to County transit mix

July 27, 2022

Ride sharing has arrived in Prince Edward County, with Uride offering on-demand service as part of a six-month pilot aimed at improving transit options for residents and visitors.

“Prince Edward County is home to an abundance of wineries, breweries and distilleries, as well as dozens of top-notch restaurants and event venues. Uride offers another option for residents and visitors alike who want to support local businesses, but also keep our roads safe,” says Mayor Steve Ferguson.

Those looking to order a ride through Uride must download an app from the App Store or Google Play Store and create an account, which includes inputting credit card and/or debit card information.

Customers use the app to order their ride, which highlights the current location of the driver and estimated time until their arrival. Fares are calculated within the app based on the distance and time between the pick-up and drop-off location, plus a $3.50 tech fee and a $0.50 fuel surcharge fee. Users are provided with the driver’s first name, vehicle make and model, as well as their licence plate information.

All vehicles in operation on behalf of Uride have the company’s logo on the vehicle. Drivers cannot pick up passengers unless they’ve used the app to order a ride.

Fares are charged to a rider’s credit or debit card automatically when the rider reaches their destination. As part of Prince Edward County’s launch, Uride users will receive a discount of up to 50% off two rides, max $10 per ride, when using the promotion code WELCOME.

Uride drivers must be at least 25 years old, with a clean driving record and no criminal offences. They’re required to follow the same rules and requirements for taxi and limo drivers, including passing a Level 2 police check, which covers any convictions, non-convictions and other relevant police information. While Uride drivers use their private vehicles, those vehicles are subject to the same safety and aesthetic requirements as taxis or limos.

Uride is actively recruiting drivers seeking flexible hours, offering both full- and part-time opportunities, with living wage pay. To attract drivers, Uride is offering a $200 sign-on bonus exclusively for Prince Edward County residents, as well as weekly guarantees that could pay upwards of $1,320/week, including HST. More details about contract driver opportunities can be found at https://uridetech.com/driver/.
