Virtual public information meeting for Wellington Heritage Conservation District Plan

April 21, 2022

A virtual public information session for the Wellington Heritage Conservation District Plan (HCD) will take place on Thursday May 5, 2022 from 7pm – 9pm. Members of the public who wish to attend the virtual public meeting must register by contacting Sarah Harvey at sharvey@pecounty.on.ca by noon on Tuesday, May 4, 2022. The meeting will be held virtually on Zoom. If you have any questions regarding accessing Zoom, please contact Sarah Harvey at the email address above.

This meeting will include a presentation of the findings of the Wellington Heritage Conservation Plan completed by Bray Heritage, the consulting firm retained by The County for this plan. The presentation will introduce the Heritage Conservation District Plan and discuss the heritage character of Wellington. The presentation will also outline mandatory policies and discretionary guidelines that will guide redevelopment within the Plan area.

A Heritage Conservation District is an area of special character, combining buildings, landscape features, and their settings that, together, make up a district that has an identifiably distinct “sense of place”. For example, the Picton Main Street area received HCD designation in 2013.

The consultants worked closely with The County for the study, conducting interviews and discussing with municipal staff, members of Council, the Prince Edward Heritage Advisory Committee, and multiple residents. In May 2021, Council adopted the study recommendations and directed staff to work with Bray Heritage to prepare a Heritage Conservation District Plan that would lay out the policies and guidelines for the study area.
