Public Information Centre — Wellington wastewater treatment plant improvements

The PIC will focus specifically on the new equalization tank that will be constructed at the existing wastewater treatment plant in Wellington.
Council awarded the design tender for the equalization tank to CIMA Canada Inc. in July 2021. Those designs will be presented at the PIC. The project is currently out to tender for construction services and is scheduled to close in late August. It is anticipated construction will begin in the fall of 2022.
The equalization tank was originally identified in the Wellington Master Servicing Plan as an interim solution to address capacity issues at the existing wastewater plant until a new plant can be constructed.
The County proposes constructing the equalization tank directly to the west of the existing Wellington wastewater treatment plant. The equalization tank will provide a buffer during peak flows or extreme wet weather events and help maximize use of the existing plant’s capacity.
The equalization tank will be permanent and incorporated into the proposed new Wellington wastewater treatment plant when the existing plant is replaced.
