County amends zoning by-law to encourage affordable and attainable housing

March 30, 2022

Council for the County of Prince Edward approved on Wednesday, March 16 amendments to the municipality’s comprehensive zoning by-law to support the development of affordable and attainable housing.

The purpose and effect of the amendments include:

  • Eliminating the minimum residential dwelling unit size within the comprehensive zoning by-law
  • Creating a new urban residential zone (R4) with alternate (reduced) standards
  • Changing the minimum frontage, exterior side yard, and rear yard provisions for apartments in the Urban Residential Type Three (R3) zone to permit greater flexibility in site design

Read the staff report for more information and background about the amendments.

Any person or public body may appeal this decision to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) by filing with the County Clerk no later than Tuesday, April 19, 2022. The current appeal fee is $1,100. The appeal form is available on the OLT website.
