Our Human Resources Department is currently accepting applications for the temporary full-time position of Driver – Roads. Reporting to the Roads Supervisor, the duties of this position will include performing general labour and maintenance tasks related to County roads, sidewalks and bridges (road patching and pothole repairs), manual snow and ice removal from sidewalks, crosswalks and doorways, safely operate winter control equipment, as necessary (depending on operational requirements), and other related seasonal road and infrastructure maintenance activities. These positions will be required for a minimum of four (4) months to a maximum of six (6) months during the winter season.


The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
• Grade 12 Diploma and related experience or five (5) years’ experience driving DZ vehicles. Preference will be given to those applicants who have prior experience driving a snowplow, dump truck or other similar equipment.
• Ability to operate tandem and single axle trucks for road maintenance, construction and snow removal.
• Previous experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, as required.
• Proven communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge and training under the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Ability to complete tasks involving heavy pushing, pulling and lifting on a regular basis and work in an uncontrolled environment.
• Proof of valid class ‘DZ’ Driver’s License and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract.


The current rate of pay for this position is $31.57 to $33.09 per hour, plus 10% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation, as per Band 8 of CUPE Local 2275’s Collective Agreement.
