County Road 49 rehabilitation report: October 5 – 9

October 2, 2026

Construction on the County Road 49 rehabilitation project continues to make steady progress.

As of Friday, October 2, the rubblization process has advanced to just north of Bethesda Road, representing approximately 9 kilometres of the 18-kilometre project corridor.

The contractor continues to work seven days a week from 7 am to 7 pm to help ensure the planned rehabilitation work is completed this year.

Drivers can continue to expect delays of 5 to 10 minutes through the construction zone. Both lanes of traffic reopen at the end of each construction day. To help manage dust on gravel sections, the contractor is applying calcium and water as needed.

Rubblization is a road rehabilitation technique that involves breaking the existing concrete road into small pieces and leaving them in place to create a strong foundation for the new asphalt roadway. Click here to read more about the process.

The contractor is currently planning to begin paving portions of the rehabilitated roadway on Thursday and Friday of next week. The municipality will provide further updates as work progresses. Click here to sign up for the email notices.

Culvert replacement and waterproofing update

All road cross-culvert replacement work has now been completed.

Waterproofing work on existing concrete box culverts is ongoing and will continue as crews progress toward Picton.

During waterproofing work:

  • Single-lane closures will remain in place in active work areas from 7 am to 7 pm
  • Temporary traffic signals will be used to maintain traffic flow and minimize delays
  • A temporary 60 km/h speed limit remains in effect throughout the construction zone
  • Drivers should continue to watch for “Bump Ahead” signs and follow all posted signage

What residents can expect during construction

With delays generally limited to 5 to 10 minutes, using alternate routes may provide little to no travel-time advantage for commuters.

However, the municipality recognizes some drivers may choose to use County Roads 5 and 15 as alternate routes. Motorists are reminded to follow posted speed limits and drive responsibly in local communities.

Stay up to date

The municipality will provide updates to the public throughout the project. Click here to sign up for the email notices.
