Prince Edward County, ON – Flashback February, a celebration of all things heritage in Prince Edward County, has returned for its eight year with a full month of activities and events.
“We are excited to expand Flashback February from a week to a month, giving residents and visitors more opportunities to engage with Prince Edward County’s rich history and heritage,” says Jessica Chase, Curator with The County Museums.
Flashback February, originally established to mark Ontario Heritage Week in late February, is presented by The County Museums in partnership with multiple community organizations and businesses. Flashback February offers a varied and exciting line-up of events taking place across the municipality.
Some of the program highlights include:
- Gather the family for a horse-drawn wagon ride at The Waring House’s Winter Carnival
- Join Base31 Curator Madeline Smolarz for guided tours of a Lancaster Bomber
- Explore new memorial and burial options being offered by cemeteries, eat a traditional funeral food lunch and attend Tom Harrison’s launch of Nixon in the County
- Boost your stargazing knowledge during a talk on “18th Century Astronomy”
- Take in tales of personal adventures in County marine history
- Create a naturally dyed skein of wool over the hearth at Macaulay House
- Listen to local musicians play their favourite tunes at County Jam
- Enrich your genealogical research in a four-part series
- Participate in a Textile Takeover at Macaulay House
- Pay Homage to Canadian women past and present at Wellington Heritage Museum
- Learn about the grim reality of the death penalty in Canada with Lorna Poplak
- Join a speakers event with Brian Beaver, hosted by the Friends of Wellers Bay
- Stop by the United Church in Consecon to meet-and-greet local heritage groups
- Listen to five local researchers’ reflections on lives and times in PEC
- Get cozy and try your hand at traditional Rug Hooking
- Gather your friends for a lively variety show and a dinner
