The County of Prince Edward is seeking input from residents and the business community on how future Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) dollars should be used.
Share your thoughts by filling out this short survey. The survey will take approximately 3-5 minutes to complete.
In 2025, County Council directed staff to consult with the community to understand the priorities for spending the municipal portion of MAT revenue. Survey results will inform a new framework for future MAT allocations.
The deadline to fill out the survey is Friday, August 14 at 4 pm.
Background information
The Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) is a tax on short‑term accommodations (e.g. hotels, motels, B&Bs, vacation rentals). It is paid by visitors, not residents. Under provincial rules, MAT revenue is collected by accommodation providers and remitted to the municipality, where it is divided 50/50:
- 50% goes to eligible tourism organizations (Visit the County and StayPEC Accommodation Association) for tourism marketing and development
- 50% remains with the municipality to support local services, projects, or infrastructure
After administrative costs and the 50/50 revenue split, the municipal portion of MAT funding is roughly $600,000 per year, though the amount fluctuates depending on visitor levels each year.
