The public is invited to attend Bridges Out of Poverty, a free and virtual community-wide training opportunity designed to build a shared understanding of poverty and resilience.
Join us online for a powerful, community‑focused introduction to the Bridges Out of Poverty framework in a virtual format. The training is designed to fit your schedule while delivering meaningful learning and practical tools to address poverty in our community.
The event will take place on Wednesday, March 25, from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Zoom.
This workshop is intended to help community members understand the realities of poverty, build greater empathy across economic experiences, and learn strategies we can use to strengthen stability and wellbeing in Prince Edward County. If you would like to learn more about this topic or are passionate about supporting your neighbours, this session is a great place to start.
The session is open to community members, volunteers, neighbours, service providers, educators, local businesses, and anyone who wants to better understand the lived experiences of poverty and support stability for all.
The training will be facilitated by certified Bridges Out of Poverty trainer Suzie Johnson-Smith. During the training, participants will:
- Learn about the key resources people need to achieve stability
- Explore the complex causes and impacts of poverty
- Build a simple mental model that explains different economic environments
- Discover the “unspoken rules” that shape daily life across economic classes
- Examine how language and stories influence opportunities
- Discuss the role social capital plays in creating strong, supportive communities
- Learn practical tools for improving relationships, communication and community outcomes
The session will include breaks, breakout rooms, and interactive exercises.
Please let us know if you require any accessibility accommodations for this session when registering. Closed captioning is available.
Registration is required by Friday, March 20. To register, click here.
This training is made possible by the Community Safety and Well-being (CSWB) Plan’s Poverty Reduction Action Team. The CSWB Plan is a municipal initiative mandated by the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019. It brings together local organizations, police, and residents to address root causes of issues like poverty, mental health, and housing. This plan is guided by collective impact practices, which means different groups work together toward shared goals.
