Localized flooding possible with significant rainfall in forecast

March 10, 2026

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the County of Prince Edward as significant rainfall of up to 35 mm is expected over the next few days.

Rising water levels and an increased risk of localized flooding are possible as the rain combines with the rapidly melting snowpack.

Localized flooding is likely to occur around small watercourses, urban areas, and ditches. Large river systems and inland lakes are not expected to flood at this time.

The public is advised that all ice surfaces should be considered dangerous and should be avoided. Please use extreme caution when near bodies of water and stay away from open and fast flowing water, culverts, dams, ice covered water, and banks.

Residents in flood prone or low-lying areas are reminded to take the necessary precautions to protect their property. Ensure sump pumps are in good working condition and help reduce ponding by keeping ditches, culverts, and storm drains clear from obstructions.

For current water levels or to report changes in water levels, residents are encouraged to visit Quinte Conservation’s website.

Local utility outages are possible during this time.

  • If your power goes out or if there is a hazard involving an electric utility, contact the Hydro One Power Outage & Emergency Line by dialing 1.800.434.1235 (24 hours, 7 days a week). This number can be used to report a power outage, fallen tree, or emergency.
  • Test all smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly. If a power outage occurs, use flashlights and battery-powered lighting. Keep fresh batteries on hand and never use candles as a light source.
  • If you rely on a generator in the event of a power failure, keep the generator away from your home and garage to prevent the accumulation of carbon monoxide in your home.
  • Stay updated by signing up to receive news and notices from the County and follow the municipality on Facebook ,Twitter/X and Instagram.

Please note: The County of Prince Edward provides this information as a service to the general public. While we do our best to provide accurate information, construction projects and associated service disruptions are subject to change based on weather, road, traffic, and other uncontrollable conditions.
