Prince Edward County celebrates National AccessAbility Week May 25 – 31

May 26, 2025

National AccessAbility Week, which takes place Sunday, May 25 to Saturday, May 31, celebrates, promotes, and showcases accessibility and inclusion across communities and workplaces in Canada.

During this time, the municipality celebrates the contributions of people with disabilities and recognizes the work of allies, organizations, and communities that are actively working to remove barriers to accessibility and inclusion.

This year, the theme for National AccessAbility Week is “AccessAbility is Within Reach”, an opportunity to come together as a community to embrace diversity and contribute to a vision where everyone can participate fully.

Mayor Steve Ferguson proclaimed National Accessibility Week at the May 13 council meeting. He encourages citizens to continue to advocate for the rights of peoples with disabilities and an inclusive community.

The municipality demonstrates its commitment and dedication to accessibility with the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2022-2026. The plan includes strategies to ensure all people achieve equitable access to municipal programs, services, and facilities.

Residents and members of the public are encouraged to provide feedback to help the municipality identify areas for improvement to become barrier-free. To share your accessibility feedback and experiences contact clerks@pecounty.on.ca or complete the Accessibility Feedback Form.

Throughout the week, the County of Prince Edward will share the work of people, organizations, and initiatives that make the municipality a place where everyone is welcome.

Follow along on the municipal Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

The public is invited to join the Accessibility Advisory Committee, Community Living Prince Edward and the Picton Public Library for an AccessAbility Awareness Day event on Friday, May 30. The awareness event will take place from 11 am to 1 pm at the Picton Public Library (208 Picton Main Street) and will focus on accessibility awareness, community education & discussing how we can move toward a more accessible community together.
