UPDATE: Fire at 113 West Mary Street (Picton)

One person has died as a result of a fire at 113 West Mary Street in Picton on Friday, June 14.

“We extend our condolences to the family of the victim,” Fire Chief Chad Brown says. “It is a sad day for our community with this person perishing suddenly in the fire.”

Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue responded to an apartment fire at 113 West Mary Street in Picton at 1:49 pm on Friday, June 14. Crews found a room on fire upon entry to the apartment and quickly extinguished the fire.

One person was removed from the apartment by firefighters and transported to the hospital. The person was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. Further updates will be provided when they become available.
