Long-term Care Home Redevelopment
A new 160-bed long term care home is under construction in Prince Edward County. This project will nearly double resident capacity, modernize care spaces, and create a purpose-built environment designed to meet new provincial standards.
Project Overview
The County of Prince Edward is undertaking an exciting redevelopment of its long-term care home. The new 124,500 square foot home will nearly double current capacity from 84 to 160 long-term care beds, helping meet the growing needs of seniors in Prince Edward County.
Designed with a resident-first approach, the building will feature five 32-bed Resident Home Areas, each offering a more intimate, home-like environment with improved privacy, accessibility, and comfort.
With upgraded infection-prevention standards and a strong focus on community well-being, the new building is an important investment in quality, dignity, and modern long-term care for local seniors.
The new home will be located on municipally owned land beside the current building, ensuring residents continue receiving uninterrupted care during the transition.

Budget and Funding
County Council initially approved the long-term care redevelopment project as part of the 2024 budget. Following further design, regulatory requirements, and procurement, the total approved project budget is $94.7 million.
The project is financed through a combination of provincial funding and long-term borrowing. This includes an upfront Construction Funding Subsidy (CFS) construction grant of approximately $12.96 million from the Ministry of Long-Term Care, which reduces the amount of debt required.
The remaining project costs are financed through an Infrastructure Ontario loan of approximately $80.4 million, for which credit approval was received on October 24, 2024.
In addition to the upfront grant, the County will receive ongoing provincial per-bed funding under the Ministry’s Construction Funding Subsidy and Top-Up programs over a 25-year period. This funding is intended to support repayment of the Infrastructure Ontario loan over time, subject to the terms of the Development Agreement and ongoing operational requirements.
Additional funding sources include:
- Eligible development charge contributions, where applicable
- A fundraising campaign with a goal of up to $1 million to support enhancements such as landscaping, equipment, program spaces, and naming opportunities
Community Support
Our goal is to raise $1 million to support meaningful enhancements in the new home, including therapeutic environments, welcoming gathering areas, artistic features, and specialized equipment that directly improve quality of life for residents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who benefits from this project?
Residents will enjoy a safer, more supportive living environment. Families will benefit from improved spaces for connection. Staff will work in a setting designed to support compassionate, high-quality care —strengthening our entire community.
