Outlet Bridge Rehabilitation
The County of Prince Edward is rehabilitating Outlet Bridge, which was originally constructed in 1958. The bridge is located on County Road 18 approximately 2.2 km east of County Road 11.
Project Overview
The municipality is rehabilitating Outlet Bridge, which was originally constructed in 1958.
A public information centre (PIC) for the project will take place on Thursday, April 23 from 6-8 pm at the Athol Town Hall (1685 County Road 10).
The bridge is located on County Road 18 approximately 2.2 km east of County Road 11.
The scope of the bridge rehabilitation includes:
- Repair of all structural deficiencies
- Construction of new approach slabs
- Replacement of barrier wall, deck overlay, and new asphalt pavement with waterproofing
- In-water repairs to the two existing support piers
Project Impacts
Vehicle Traffic:
- Traffic on bridge will be reduced to a single lane for the duration of construction.
- Traffic will be controlled by temporary traffic signals, alternating lane directions.
Marina Traffic:
- A minimum of a 3-metre navigable lane will be maintained at all times through the Outlet River.
Pedestrian Traffic:
- There are no sidewalks on the Outlet Bridge.

Detailed Structural Investigations
- Wide cracking evident in the bridge soffit and abutment walls with some disintegration of the concrete as well in the abutment walls.
- Cracking has taken place in the bridge footings and wingwalls.
- The deck barrier system requires replacement to meet current bridge standards.

- Design commenced in 2025 and completed in March 2026

Budget and Funding
County Council approved the project in the 2026 budget at a total cost of $2,190,100.
The project is funded through two sources:
- Ontario Community Infrastructure Funding (OCIF) — $1,190,100
- The municipality’s Reserve for Roads Construction – Bridges — $1,000,000
