Prince Edward County’s Public Art Program

The County of Prince Edward’s public art program supports initiatives that:

  • Enrich and inspire our community
  • Showcase artistic excellence
  • Create opportunities to respectfully discover and celebrate our stories

Are you interested in proposing a public art project?

The municipality welcomes community-initiated public art project proposals. The municipality’s Public Art Policy sets out a review process for carrying out public art projects in or on:

  • Municipally owned and managed spaces including parks, sidewalks, etc.
  • Privately owned exterior spaces within the Picton and Wellington Heritage Conservation Districts (HCDs)

The processes are designed to:

  • Facilitate the success and longevity of these initiatives
  • Clarify roles and responsibilities for care, liability, and maintenance of the public art
  • Ensure these projects and our most prominent public spaces reflect the community’s vision for public art as outlined in the 2025-30 Public Art Plan

Please note: The municipality does not typically provide funding for community-initiated projects through the public art program budget. Community-initiated projects should be presented with a budget and funds secured by the group or individual applying. On rare occasions and depending on funding availability, the municipality may enter into a cost-sharing arrangement with other entities (e.g. business improvement areas, community groups, etc.) to help facilitate certain projects.

Are you interested in donating a public artwork or financially supporting public art?

The County of Prince Edward will consider proposals from the public for donations of public artwork to the municipality’s collection. A process is in place to ensure these activities are carried out with the highest standards of quality and transparency, and in accordance with the municipality’s Public Art Plan.

The municipality will also accept financial donations to support the public art program. Donations allocated to the Public Art Program will remain in the Public Art Reserve until spent and will be used at the discretion of the Public Art Coordinator for Public Art Projects within Prince Edward County. These public art works are meant to provide meaning and a greater sense of identity and understanding to the places where we live, work and play.

Public Art Commissions Program

The public art program has a small budget for commissions from 2025–27, with any unused funds rolling over to the following year. The goal is to roll out public art throughout Prince Edward County over the next several years to enhance the cultural, aesthetic and economic vitality of our community.
