Downtown Revitalization

Overview:

The County of Prince Edward finalized in 2018 downtown revitalization action plans for five centres within the municipality: Picton, Bloomfield, Wellington, Consecon, and Rossmore. A County-wide action plan was also developed that sets out the framework for other County communities to champion and take ownership of their own unique vision, goals and action plans.

Strategic Alignment:

Maintain rural and historic character: This initiative relates to the municipal priority of maintaining the rural and historic character of the County through responsible planning, principals and decision-making.

Background:

The development of the plans was a joint initiative between the County and the downtown communities of Picton, Bloomfield, Wellington, Consecon, and Rossmore. The plans were shaped and developed through consultation with businesses, residents and organizations in each community. The project was funded in part by the Rural Economic Development (RED) program offered by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA).

Implementation:

The County received funding from the Ontario Main Street Revitalization program in 2019-20 to implement several action items from the plans.

Work will continue on implementation in 2022 with support from the RED program. The County received $130,000 to support ongoing work to revitalize downtown centres across the municipality. Click here to learn more.
