Boat launch update — The Belleville Street Boat Launch at the Wellington Harbour is closed indefinitely due to traffic and safety challenges at this location.

An additional boat launch on West Lake near Wellington has opened for the public. The boat ramp at 16057 Loyalist Parkway will allow boaters to launch of smaller watercraft; the gravel ramp will not be suitable for larger, heavier boats.

Municipal Boat Launches

All municipal boat launches operate on a pay-to-park system (as opposed to the former pay-to-launch system). Parking fees are charged between May 1 – October 31.

Full-season Boat Launch Parking Permits

Valid for parking at any municipal boat launch from May-October.

Cost:

  • $50 + HST for PEC residents
  • $100 + HST for non-residents

How to purchase:

  • Use the online order form. Permits will be mailed or left for pick up at the Edward Building customer service or any PEC Library Branch. NOTE: It takes up to three business days to process an order made through the online form. Permits ordered online become valid when you receive the paper permit and display it on your dashboard.  You must have the permit in hand and displayed on your dashboard in order to park at the boat launch.
  • Purchase in person at the Edward Building customer service or any PEC Library Branch.
  • Non-resident seasonal parking permits can also be purchased through the Mackay Pay app.

Single day Boat Launch Parking Permits

Valid for parking at any municipal boat launch on the day specified on the permit.

Cost:

  • $20 + HST for vehicles with trailers
  • $10 + HST for vehicles without trailers

How to purchase:

  • Purchase through the Mackay Pay app. No need to print or display anything: your permit and licence plate are stored in the Mackay system for our enforcement staff to check. Mackay zone numbers for each boat launch are listed below. There are no machines on site. Payment can be made through the App at the dock, or before you leave your home through the App or the Mackay Pay website.
  • Purchase in person at the Edward Building customer service or any PEC Library Branch (available at libraries as of May 1).

Boat launch parking permit FAQ

As of April 26, you can purchase your full-season boat launch parking permit online and it can be mailed to you or left for pick up at The Edward Building or any PEC Library Branch.

If you require help with this process, please contact Customer Service at 613.476.2148 extension 1023.

Permits can also be obtained in person at the Edward Building, 180 Main Street Picton, from 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday or a Prince Edward County library (various locations and times of operation).

When purchasing in person and to take advantage of the resident rate of $50+HST, you must provide proof of residency, such as a driver’s licence, tax bill, utility bill or lease agreement. You can list up to two licence plate numbers on a single permit. However, as the permit is not transferrable, proof of insurance linking the licence plates to a single owner is required.

Using the online purchase form, you can pay with Mastercard or VISA. At the Edward Building, you may pay with credit card, debit, cash or cheque. At the libraries, you may pay with cash or cheque. Please make cheques payable to The County. The total for residents is $50 + $6.50 HST = $56.50. The total for non-residents is $100 + $13 HST = $113.

If you’re parking at any Prince Edward County boat launch, you’ll need to pay for parking. For a single use, that’s $10 for a vehicle (no trailer). If you’re planning to use a municipal boat launch for parking a vehicle more than five times in the year, it’s worthwhile purchasing a seasonal parking permit.

If you have insurance for both vehicles that confirms they are owned by the same person, up to two licence plate numbers can be listed on the permit.

It’s possible to pay for parking each time you use a municipal boat launch. The municipality uses MacKay Pay, the same paid parking provider as is used on Picton Main Street. We recommend downloading the MacKay Pay app in advance of your outing, and setting up a profile with your credit card information to save time and effort. Once at the boat launch, you would open the app and enter in the Zone. Follow the instructions on dockside signs.

Yes – but you’ve got to plan ahead and you’ve got to stick with your plan. Purchase a day permit from the Edward Building or from your local library. The date of use and your licence plate number will be displayed on the permit.

Kayaking and Canoeing

Kayaks and canoes can be launched from any of the municipal boat launch locations, though some locations are better suited to non-motorized watercraft than others. Parking fees are required for paddlers, but are just $10 for a vehicle without a trailer. Season parking permits are available.

NEW IN 2022: Paddle docks have been installed at Glendon Green and Weller’s Bay boat launches.

Non-motorized boats can also be launched at Massassauga Point Conservation Area, managed by Quinte Conservation Authority or any of the Provincial Parks in The County.
