Additional Information

Need a blue box? Recycling boxes must be used for curbside pickup. They can be purchased for $10 at Shire Hall, 332 Picton Main Street, Picton.

Damaged blue box? Prince Edward County will replace damaged blue boxes, while supplies last, at any of our seven landfill or transfer sites, free of charge. You can find location information for all of the sites by visiting the landfills page here. Once the County’s stock has run out, residents will need to reach out to E360 Solutions for replacement blue boxes.

Recycling will also be accepted at any landfill  (open Saturdays from 8 am – 4 pm). Large bags of paper, plastic or other recyclables, and blue box materials in quantities of more than three recycling bins must be dropped off at a landfill site.

Please follow the sorting guidelines from Circular Materials:

Please note: Styrofoam will be accepted as part of the regular curbside recycling collection.

However, Styrofoam will no longer be accepted at municipal waste sites. Industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) property owners should dispose of Styrofoam material as waste.

Recycling tips:

When using one box to sort:

  • Metal and aluminum cans, empty metal paint cans (with the lid off), empty aerosol cans, used metal cookware, and plastic bottles and containers go in the box.
  • Put papers into a grocery bag. Shredded paper should be in its own clear plastic bag.
  • Stuff soft plastic bags inside one plastic bag – Note: chip bags, wrappers and pet food bags are garbage.
  • Stuff cereal and tissue style boxes into one box.
  • Clear and coloured glass bottles and jars on top of blue box – Note: return LCBO bottles to The Beer Store.  Broken glass is garbage**
  •  Fold and bundle corrugated cardboard in 30″ x 30″ x 8″ bundles and place beside blue box.

When using two blue boxes to sort:

  • Blue Box #1 – Put all of your plastic & metal containers into on blue box.  The following items are acceptable in the standard blue box and the larger “Plastic & Metals Container Only” blue box: Metal and aluminum cans, empty metal paint cans (with the lid off), empty aerosol cans, used metal cookware, and plastic bottles and containers. Note: black plastic is not accepted
  • Blue Box #2 – Put all of your paper products, plastics, and glass into a second blue box.  This includes boxboard (cereal, cracker boxes, empty toilet paper rolls, etc.); news and office paper, envelopes, books, magazines; milk/juice cartons, tetra paks, juice boxes, etc.; stuff soft plastic bags inside one plastic bag and put it on top; clear and coloured glass bottles and jars on top; fold and bundle corrugated cardboard in 30″ x 30″ x 8″ dimensions and place beside box.

DO:

  • rinse and clean cans, bottles, and jars; place shredded paper in a clear bag; bundle cardboard with packing tape or twin
  • return refundable glass bottles to the beer store for a refund

DON’T

  • include broken glass, once broken – it’s garbage**
  • include chip bags, wrappers, and pet food bags – it’s garbage.
  • include Kleenex tissues or used paper towel

** DO NOT put loose broken glass inside a garbage bag. To safely dispose of broken glass, please put it in a box and then put the box inside your garbage bag. If the box cannot fit in the garbage bag, clearly label the box as “broken glass,” put a bag tag on it, and place it beside your garbage bag at the curb.
