Household Hazardous Waste

Disposal of Hazardous Waste

This program is operated by GFL Environmental Services and is available for residents of Prince Edward County, Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling Rawdon, Madoc Township, Center Hastings Tweed, Tyendinaga Township, and Marmora and Lake Township.

Household hazardous and electronic waste (HEW) is not accepted curbside. County residents can dispose of hazardous waste free of charge at the Household Hazardous & Electronic Waste Depot located at 75 Wallbridge Crescent in Belleville.

Hours of operation

Winter hours (November 1 to March 31):
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm

Summer / Fall hours (April 1 to October 31):
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and select Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm

The depot will be open the following Saturdays during the mobile events season:

While the County does not accept hazardous waste at our landfill sites, we host collection days throughout the year. Mobile hazardous waste events will take place at the Wellington and District Community Centre (111 Belleville Street) on the following dates from 9 am – 2 pm: 

    • Saturday, May 9
    • Saturday, June 13
    • Saturday, July 18
    • Saturday, September 12
  • Electronic waste will no longer be accepted at mobile collection events and can be brought to the following waste sites during regular hours of operation.
    • Sophiasburgh (35 County Road 14)
    • South Marysburgh (1132 Old Milford Road)
    • Wellington (275 Consecon Street)
  • *NEW- automotive waste is now accepted at mobile collection events. This includes motor oil, filters and coolants. Outside of collection events, motor oil must be dropped off at the hazardous waste depot at 75 Wallbridge Crescent in Belleville. Click here to view the operating hours.
  • Please note, batteries brought to mobile collection events as well as the hazardous waste depot must have terminals taped. Cover the terminals with non-conductive tape such as clear packing tape, duct tape or electrical tape. Do not cover the brand name or chemistry on the label.
  • Scrap metal will not be accepted at mobile collection events. Scrap metal is accepted at all waste sites within Prince Edward County during regular hours of operation.

Some examples of electronics and hazardous waste accepted at the Household Hazardous & Electronic Waste Depot located at 75 Wallbridge Crescent in Belleville. include:

  • Paint – thinners, rust removers, glues and cements
  • Oils, transmission fluids, fuels
  • Ammonia based cleaners & drain cleaners
  • Metal & glass cleaners
  • Fertilizers, chlorine bleach
  • Batteries, butane lighters
  • Computer monitors, keyboards & mouses
  • Computer hard drives, scanners, etc.
  • Propane tanks
  • Fluorescent tubes & medical syringes

County landfills are not licensed to receive materials containing asbestos or waste containing PCBs.

Electronic waste is accepted at the South Marysburgh (1132 Old Milford Road), Sophiasburgh (35 County Road 14) and Wellington (275 Consecon Street) waste sites during regular hours of operation. Hazardous waste will not be accepted. For a list of accepted items, please click here.

Please keep in mind that electronics and hazardous waste are not accepted at all landfill and transfer sites within Prince Edward County.
